Once upon a time, there was a project manager called Katarina. Every night, she dreamed that all content would be translated and formatted with a single snap of her fingers. At the stroke of 2 o’clock, she woke up and rushed out of bed. Not to fetch a cup of ‘good night’ tea, no. She grabbed her iPad and said:
‘AI, AI, in my hand, who’s the smartest in the land?’
‘You, of course; I haven’t found anyone smarter than you in my terabytes yet.’

With a peaceful heart, Katarina laid her head back on her pillow.
And so it went on, year after year, every night.

When dawn broke and the birds began the day with their chirping, Katarina was already at work. Tired? Yes, of course, but the assignments were pouring in, and every notification was marked in capital letters: URGENT.
Her day consisted of quickly running AI through the assignments and using her calculation tool: how much of a discount could she get on the translator’s rate?

Katarina sent out bulk requests to translators; there was no time to write anything personal. It has to be returned this afternoon, and remember: the client expects top quality.

At 2 am she asked as usual:
‘AI, AI, in my hand, who is the smartest in the land?’
‘What a good question! You, of course, clever Katarina.’
And she was able to sleep peacefully again.
That’s how it went five days a week, and a few times at the weekend too.

Until one night when it hardly got dark at all: what was going on? It was as if someone had left the light on. She couldn’t get to sleep, and by 1:45 she couldn’t take it any longer.

‘AI, AI, in my hand, who’s the smartest in the land?’, she wanted to know.
‘Searching’, appeared on the screen.
Did she have to wait until 2 o’clock?
‘Who? Tell me!’
‘You’re so clever, you know that. But now there’s an animal, so clever, so fun, so quick, so light-hearted.’
‘An animal? Can it be smarter than me?’
‘You’re smart, never forget that, but this Qangaroo is a thousand times smarter.’

Furious, she threw her tablet away. She couldn’t sleep anymore. Exhausted, she went to work hours later. Translators were full of Qangaroo and sent clear and complete reports. Quality had never been so easy.

Filled with jealousy, she tried one more time; after that, she swore, she would never ask again:
‘AI, AI, in my hand, who is the smartest in the land?’

Intrigued, though still jealous, she decided to investigate for herself.
